Investing
Investing your money is a major job and needs to done with care and expertise. Even if you are not in the investment world, you still need to invest your dollars. You can do it yourself or your can go to an investment manager or financial planner to help. There are many different vehicles and ways to invest, but a few that are readily available are SRI Mutual funds, individual stocks (more research for SRI), and SRI ETF (Exchange traded funds).
Tips for doing it yourself:
- Only do it yourself, if you have less than $100,000 and have some time to understanding the investment world. (see : Assets less than $100,000)
- When setting up an account, understand if there is a fee.
- If you have accumulated a small amount of dollars (less than $10,000) and don’t know what to do, go to a discount brokerage firm i.e. Schwab, TDWaterhouse, and set up a Roth IRA. The firm can give you the facts about the account and what it can do for you. After searching this site for SRI Mutual funds, you are ready to make an investment in your new account.
Working with a Financial Planner:
- With more than $100,000, (see Assets more than $100,000) it might be wise to look for some professional help. You can do it yourself but now it is even more vital to invest carefully and wisely to meet your financial plan. If you do it yourself, you will need to plan to spend time learning investing; remember, you're in a market trading against trained professionals.
- You will be able to locate a good financial planner near you from this web site.
- We recommend that you work with a fee-only financial planner and a person that has credentials to help. (see: “Who can Help”)
Investing dollars is fun and can be very beneficial especially when you invest in companies that are doing good things for you as well as the planet.
